The Chronicles of the Skeptic/ Cynic… (Or some such guy like that)

Image
“The wind on my back, the sun on my face, that’s how a warrior should go out” But for me that wasn't the reality, for I was in a place where there was neither sun nor wind and I was definitely not going out, not quite the best thing for a “warrior” like me, the Eternal Cynic and the Constant Skeptic . “How can I be lost,   If I've got nowhere to go?” All my life I had believed in these words said by the indomitable Metallica. The only thing I believed in was the fact that there’s nothing to believe in, because people live their lives in search of a reason which they can comfortably lose and blame the guy next to them. People like me are hated by others for we point out the obvious. People hate us when we tell the jubilant new mother that her baby looks kind of ‘different’. I believe such kids should be told early in life that there’s very less hope for them in the looks department. But when you point it out, you are forced out of the baby room

The Towel...

Image
There are many examples and stories related to towels, but none can be as compelling and eye-opening as the following quote: “A towel, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with

The Rambo Conundrum

Image
“ Uhura :   We  are outgunned… outnumbered . Kirk :   So we come out shooting ”             Courtesy: STAR TREK: INTO THE DARKNESS (INTERNATIONAL TRAILER)   In the short span of time I call my life this is one of the few lines I have heard many a times. Every movie and every action novel which involves a protagonist fighting against an antagonist shall always have some line like this. This line would probably be located right near the climax of the novel or movie and would invariably see the protagonist come out of the tight situation guns blazing (at times literally!!) But then has anyone ever wondered how unrealistic this line can be? I mean, I don’t deny the fact that when cornered people do tend to perform extraordinary acts of valor. But then when the situation looks so bleak and hopeless then how much could (or rather should) be the chance of coming out of the situation with flying colors? That, I believe is the million dollar question. To answer this question le

Because it happens...

People will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but they will never forget how much you made them feel. (Disclaimer: This is a fictional account, partly inspired by a short story and partly the numerous movies watched over the last 20 odd years!!!) Goodbye. It’s such a simple word.  Wish, it were as simple as a click on a button.  But sometimes it’s the hardest thing to say. If someone says to you that, he can leave everything whenever he wishes than trust me, he’s lying. It had just been three years, not exactly the longest time, but still I  couldn't  bring myself to say the word. I knew she was gone. She was never going to come back. The note she left me was very precise. Just two lines, but it said everything. “I am leaving you. Please don’t come after me.” I  didn't  know what to believe: those sweet words of love that she whispered in my ears or the hard and cold reality of the note in my hand. Even though I knew that something was w

The Sambar Effect

Influences influence everyone and saying that an original creation wasn’t influenced would be an untruth. But in today’s world, people have gone ahead and distorted the concept of influence. Now people are blatantly copying creations and putting them up for people to see in the name of “Remakes”. Yes, I am talking about the new (?) trend in Bollywood to remake hit southern movies and rake in the moolah. Agreed, the ‘idea’ has been fruitful, but then how long does Bollywood expect people to fall for this ruse? It’s not that remaking movies is a thing of today. There have been Hindi remakes done of movies in other languages in the past too. There have even been blatant copies where the makers didn’t even have the courtesy of mentioning the fact that they have been copied or rather lifted from other movies. But then with the passage of time, people woke up to this practice and started to criticize this style of movie-making . Then people started to remake movies and name the mov

The Notice Board

Image
The notice board is an integral part of any institution, be it virtual or physical. But out here,I am not talking about a notice board in the usual sense of the term. I am talking about the moving, talking and worrying(!) notice boards all around us. Like every country has a national song and a flag, likewise every neighborhood has a notice board. The person who is like the daily newspaper that is slammed into your windows every morning (a word of apology for people who get their newspapers in the evening). This person is an unique creation of society and is an integral part too. He/She usually carries the duty (and an important one at it too) of informing the world at large of the happenings of the world... She is the one who makes it a point to keep a tab on all the people, no matter what happens. She actually acts as an unifying factor, for people in families unify to preserve their well guarded secrets, but not many can escape the techniques of this person. She is like th
